Pakistan is a house of more than 30 types of fruits grown all over the country. The major products are citrus, mangoes, dates, banana, guava, apple, grapes, almonds, pomegranate, apricots, plums and peaches etc. Many of these fruits are exported globally and are well known for their good quality in the international market. The major exports are of mango and citrus that are exported to over 40 countries. It has been estimated that about 91% of the fruits are consumed locally and 6% are exported. The remaining 3% is processed into value added products such as pulp, juices, concentrates, beverages, jams, jellies and pickles. The production clusters of mangoes are located in Punjab and Sindh. Whereas citrus is cultivated in Sargodha and Bhalwal region of Punjab. Guava is also produced in Sindh and Punjab. Whereas the banana production is confined to Sindh due to favorable agro-ecological conditions of this region. Most of the dates are produced in Sindh and Baluchistan. The production of other fruits like apple, plums, peaches, apricots, and pomegranate is from KPK and Baluchistan.
